Lampwork–Glass Bead Making Part I    

Learn the ancient art form of glass bead making - Lampwork.  Come and find out you can really make beads too!  You will learn safety with the torch, hot glass,  simple round beads, decorating with dots, cylinders, and decorating with lines, use of a marver, and making stringers. 

     This is the eighth year we have been teaching hot glass classes at Three Trails.  We have seasoned glass work teachers that have many hours of torch time over the years.  Below we have a detailed descriptions of all glass classes, see the Jewelry Making Classes page for specific dates and times!   We sell and carry tools; Nortel Minor Burners, hoses, hot head torches, mandrels, hot glass shears, marvers, didymium glasses, fiber blankets, and glass rods.

Lampwork – Glass Bead Making II     

     Continue the ancient art form of glass bead making – Lampwork part II.  Come and find how to make different shaped beads and decorate beads on a more advanced level!  Part I is a prerequisite.  You will continue with safety, and the basics, make stringers, learn flow beads, learn to make a heart shaped bead, and more elaborate decorations.  Demonstration on making twisties. 

Tools:

     We sell and carry tools; Nortel Minor Burners, hoses, hot head torches, stainless steel mandrels, hot glass shears, hot head torches, marvers, didymium glasses, fiber blankets, bead reamers, and glass rods. 

It is still highly popular and valued today, as it is still created by hand using many of the same traditions and processes passed on for generations.  Cloisonné involves a 5-step process of 1) creating and preparing a fine silver base  2) soldering fine silver filigree to it 3) filling with enamel 4) firing 5) finishing.  Class supplies Fine Silver Disk, 1 foot of fine silver cloisonné wire, enamels, incidental supplies.  Bring your own tools:  small watercolor brushes (size 00 to 2, decent quality), plastic lid for glue for dipping wires, if you have the following bring as well, fine-point tweezers (curved tip helps), round-tip pliers, flat-tip pliers, small scissors. 

Cloisonné Enameling

Learn the basics of the ancient form of traditional Chinese Cloisonné.  This elaborate and complicated art form has inspired   metalworkers,   muralists, jewelry artists, and painters all over the world.

Continue the ancient art form of glass bead making.  Learn techniques  in feathering and encased stringers to decorate your beads at a more advanced level.  Prerequisite PART 1 & 2 OR be a proficient bead maker and have experience on the torch.

Intermediate Lampwork

TORCH TIME

     Don’t have your equipment yet or don’t have room to make a studio at home?  Come and work at my studio, use my torch and tools, for making your own beads.  You will need to have taken the Lampwork part I class from here, prior to use of the equipment during Torch Time.  You will need to purchase your own glass (mandrels, and a fiber blanket if you wish to carry the beads home before cooling and cleaning).  The best price in town, only $15.00 per hour, $55 for 4, hour sessions, or $155.00 for 12, hour sessions. Annealing your beads are always included!

Advanced Lampwork - Sculptural Heart Beads

     Learn to make different types of sculptural heart beads for Valentines Day.  This is an advanced  class, so previous glass and torch experience is needed.

 

 Advanced Lampwork Florals

     Learn to make floral beads. You will learn simple flowers, complex stringers, surface decoration, and encasing.  This is an advanced  class, so you must be a proficient bead maker and have experience on the torch.

Advanced Lampwork - Marble Making

     Come and learn the process of marble making.  You must be a proficient bead maker and have experience on the torch. 

Intro to Fused Glass

     Learn to cut, design, and fuse glass. Create a unique piece of wearable art.

Other Intermediate Lampwork Glass Bead Making

What would you like to learn? Advanced cane work, lattachino, feathering, encasing, using frit, enamels, & pixy dust, foils, presses, multi-layering, making hollow beads, plunging, and etching & sandblasting on lampwork beads?   Prerequisites Part 1 & 2 or be a proficient bead maker.
